Since 1993 Prairie Fire has offered prizes for a variety of writing genre. The names of the categories have varied. The poetry category was discontinued in 1997 when Prairie Fire became a co-sponsor of the Bliss Carman Poetry Award (which see) with The Banff Centre for the Arts. Winners of the various writing contests receive a cash prize and are published in Prairie Fire.
