Originally offered to recognize a first work of poetry. When the Poet's Corner Award (which see) was inaugurated in 1998, the New Muse Award was changed to recognize a new writer of fiction. The winning author receives a trade book contract to publish their winning manuscript with Broken Jaw Press. [Editor's note - ceased after 2003]
