Libris Awards

1972-
English

To commemorate International Book Year in 1972, the Canadian Booksellers' Association presented an award to the author of a Canadian novel. This presentation was continued until 1977. In 1981 the award was revived, named the Libris Award and offered to an author who had produced a substantial body of work and who had made a significant contribution to the Canadian book industry. In 1998 a number of new categories were created, including one for lifetime achievement. The award which had formerly been given for that honour was renamed as the Author of the Year award, and the awards were collectively referred to as the Libris Awards. Only prizes for authors and editors are listed. Winners are presented with a trophy.
