The award, offered by the Alberta Chapter of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, varied in amount and in type of work eligible - usually historical or straight fiction, often dealing with Western Canada. After 1956, the book award was discontinued, but an award was presented for a play in 1957. There was a cash award.
